CarLock for Android or how to know from your phone when your car is stolen

carlock-render-4Back 7 years ago when I was just starting on my first job I had the chance to work as a software developer for a company witch build the hardware and software for a product witch monitor a fleet of trucks with the help of GPS and the GSM networks. At that time the device needed for that was the size of a laptop, need a truck service to be installed and I can tell you that was not cheap.

This morning I had stumbled on an Android app named CarLock witch with a help of a small device do almost the same as what the system I was talking above did.

It track the position of a car, and you can see it in real time on a map from your phone or tablet, you can get notification if the car is moved from the location where you left it and you are notified if the system lost GPS or GSM signal or the device is removed from the car (it is a strong chance that someone steals your car and try to remove any traces).

If you ask yourself at this point how  a simple phone app do that, remember what I said at first. You need a device that is connected at the car computer. This device can be purchased from the CarLock home site for the price of  99 Euro and you get bonus one month subscription in that money.

The package consist in a device that need to be connected at the car ODB connector (this is the connector where you access the car computer). After you connect it it you do not need to do any settings the device come directly configured and start working.

Using this system you have the support of the GPS satellites and the GLONASS satellites (for those that do not know GLONASS is the Russian version of the GPS). Using the 2 systems together you will always have correct coordinates sent to the server from where you can access it.

OK. So in conclusion if you nave a car you need protection and for the price of 99 EURO you can get it and more. And this can be a great tool for companies that want to track work cars too.

The app work on Europe and it will work in a near future on the US also.

Now the fun of being a blogger it that you can have the chance to play with the apps or devices you write about. So check some images from the app.

Screenshot_2014-03-27-18-36-57  After a success login first time you will see this setting screen where you can toggle on or of the alarms.
Screenshot_2014-03-27-18-48-56  Another feature is auto lock . So usually I do not drive at night and for that I set that in the 22:00 – until the 05:00 AM the car should be locked without my intervention. This can be set from here vor every day in the week based on your schedule.
Screenshot_2014-03-27-18-45-17 Here I had started the tests with the real device. I park my car and if you can check the printscreen from my phone I can see the position of my car. The Green unlocked button show me that my car is not locked and I will not receive any alarms if car is moving.
Screenshot_2014-03-27-18-45-25  I press the green (above) button and it ill lock my car position. From now on if car is moving or dor is open or alarm is ringing without unlock from the phone I will receive notifications.
Screenshot_2014-03-27-18-46-03  With the app locked I open the door and immediately the phone start ringing and notified me that the dor is opened. (*)
Screenshot_2014-03-27-18-46-17  Now this was a little hard to do. I start the alarm of my car and when I was kick hard the car tire the alarm started. The app notified me once again. (*)
Screenshot_2014-03-27-18-45-47  I start the engine and I receive this notification too
Screenshot_2014-03-27-18-48-27  Now I unlocked the app and start move the car. The app will not notify me since the unlock button was pressed but I can still see the app on phone map and I can even know at what the speed is.

*the “door open” and “external alarm” work only with with the version that needs profesional installation of the device.

You can check the Google Play for the app and the device you can purchase it from this website.

There is a iPhone version of the App and it can be downloaded from here.
